| Hey everyone, I am looking to buy a winch for my jk. But I don't know what size will be good. I am looking at a 6000 or 9000 lbs winch. Or course I want the 6000 cause its cheaper, but don't know if that would be good enough. Just want to know what yall think I should do. Thanks John |

| 8000 at the VERY MINIMUM!!!!! A 9 or 9.5 would be better!!!!! I MIGHT use a 6000 on the rear just to maybe pull myself back out when I changed my mind. _________________ Life is too short to spend it with idiots! 3in Full Traction Premium Plus, Bilstien 5100 shocks, Bilstien 5100 steering stabilizer, 35x12.50x17 Toyo open country M/T, AEV Wheels, Lightforce 170, Rugged Ridge light bar, BesTop bikini top & duster, Superchip Programmer, Superior 5.13's and axle tube seals, Poison Spyder diff covers, Xenon H.I.D. headlights & driving lights. |

| The general rule is 1.5 times the weight of your jeep. A 4 door with lift + wheels/tires + bumpers + loaded with people & gear for the trail should be close to 5500 lbs or so. So 5500 x 1.5 = 8,250 lb winch. Bigger IS better I'd go with the biggest QUALITY winch your budget will afford. I run a 9k lb Tabor winch. I got it for just under $500 delivered. Not sure what they run now. I got mine when they first came out. They are made by Warn and it has not let me down yet in and I've had a few good long pulls on it. _________________ 08 4 door....BANANAMAN yellow round tires.... some stuff added.... more stuff wanted.... even more stuff needed /I _I_,[____], L-I_I_I -OIIIIIIO- ()_)....()_) ... | Ramsey 8000. Ramsey is the king of winches. Check any tow truck, it's sporting a ramsey, enough said. |

Ramsey is a definitely a quality winch, but there is HUGE difference between their worm gear industrial winch line and their standard recovery winches.
I'll stick with my Warn. Years ago I had an old Warn 8274 that I got in a trade from my grandfather. It was 15-20 years old and needed rebuilding. I called Warn's 1-800 number and asked for a manual (this was before the internet in the early 90's). They sent the manual. I found what I needed and called back. They asked for the winch's serial number and after I gave it to them they said they would send me the part I needed at no cost. I will be a fan for life. Since that time (19-20 years) I have bought 3 winches, all of the Warns. |
