| I don't know for sure, but I've heard that vehicles in Texas have to have the same number of mirrors as originally equipped from the manufacturer. Someone on this forum either knows, our knows someone who knows. That's your cue, Robert. |

| You only need one mirror in the state of texas. The rearview mirror is all you need! |

| Because I have heard so many differing answers, I decided to look it up. Here is a link to what I found.
http://info.sos.state.tx.us/pls/pub/readtac$ext.TacPage?sl=R&app=9&p_dir=&p_rloc=&p_tloc=&p_ploc=&pg=1&p_tac=&ti=37&pt=1&ch=21&rl=1
Do a text search for "Driver rear visibility requirement" and you'll find the following statement.
"(D) Driver rear visibility requirement--To meet this requirement a motor vehicle must be equipped with outside mirrors on both the left and right sides of the vehicle that are located so as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway through each mirror a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle."
I'm no attorney or law enforcement officer, but to me, that sounds an awful lot like two mirrors are required. |

Hmmm...Sounds like mirrors are required. When I got my heep inspected last year (2010) I didn't have the doors on and I asked the inspector if I needed side mirrors. He said no and showed me on his computer. Not sure what site he was on but it said the only one mirror needed either drivers side or rearview with a distance of 200 ft.

| Your not reading the whole thing. That subsection refers to window tinting. When there is a lack of visibility less than 25% I believe, you must also have side mirrors. This code is also based on Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. They can be overwritten by Texas Traffic Code.
Read section "(f) Sunscreening, reflective, and privacy window devices." completely.
TTC:
547.613 also states the above when applied to situations of window screening
The code that applies to our Jeeps is 547.602.
"MIRRORS REQUIRED. A motor vehicle, including a motor vehicle used to tow another vehicle, shall be equipped with A mirror located to reflect to the operator a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet from the rear of the vehicle." |

| ok here it is and this is from my police buddy. Two mirrors are required 1 center rearview and 1 driverside. most police will not bother you as long as you have 1 center mirror. BUT they can be an ass if they want on the driver side mirror. Passinger side mirrors stated in the late 70's as "Standard Equipment Package" and never required. It's like in Texas you need to have operational windshield wiper, even a hand cranck wiper is still allowed, BUT you DO NOT have to have a front windshield. _________________ Life is too short to spend it with idiots! 3in Full Traction Premium Plus, Bilstien 5100 shocks, Bilstien 5100 steering stabilizer, 35x12.50x17 Toyo open country M/T, AEV Wheels, Lightforce 170, Rugged Ridge light bar, BesTop bikini top & duster, Superchip Programmer, Superior 5.13's and axle tube seals, Poison Spyder diff covers, Xenon H.I.D. headlights & driving lights. |
