PostSubject: Cibolo Creek Wheeling?   Tue 22 Mar 2011, 4:29 pm

The family and I were in Schertz this weekend for a volleyball tournament. Traffic at 1604 & I35 was jacked, so I took some back roads along Cibolo Creek. I noticed that there were quite a few 4x4 trails down in the creek bed. Those can't be legal can they? I mean there have to be private property access restrictions and environmental restrictions right? Anybody Know?

I have a guy here in the office that belongs to (use to) midnight mudders, and they use to use cibolo creek for trail rides. I asked him the same thing. he told there is something about "public access". I'll ask him tomorrow. I know they just had some reunion run there like 2 months ago.

In Texas it is illegal to 4wheel in drainage easements - read: rivers, creek beds, ditches, etc. If it's on private property and the property owner says "go ahead" then it should be ok...

Its illegal. Seen a few tickets issued for wheeling there. No different than Devils Den or any of the other similar areas.

Both my kids go down there quite a few times. Yes, if caught Schertz police officers or U.C. will more than likely give you a ticket. One of the roads leading down there to the creek in the subdivision now has a baracade blocking the road. We tried to go just a few days ago and saw the baracade. There are several different places you can go to get into the creek. You just have to know them.

Thanks for all the input. I wasn't actually considering going down there. I was just curious to know whether it was legal. I couldn't see how it would be legal to 4x4's. Bikes, and hikers maybe, but not 4x4's without prior consent and then I'd imagine it would be only for some official purpose, like surveys and such.

I will say that it looks like there are some mighty fine looking wheeling spots down there though.

I have some land on the Cibolo Creek further south from there. My brother used to drive his tractor into the river to wash it off. He said the game warden or someone told him it was illegal to drive in the river even tho we owned the land it was cutting thru.

thinking about it more... there use to be a spot on the southside on military dr. and the salado creek that dirt bikes, atvs and mountain bikes use to ride through there all the time. Cops knew it was going on because there would be trucks with trailers parked all along military and the side streets, people in full riding gear walking around and nobody got a ticket or any word.

"USED TO BE" a lot of places people would 4 wheel and cops didn't do anything about it. Devil's Den was one of them. NOW it is being enforced more strictly. Mountain biking, walking, jogging, running are usually accepted on trails on public lands but not offroading Sad

Ya I remember drag racing on Millitary Dr. by Brooks and cops used sit there and watch! Then some jackass would come and start doing burn outs or doughnuts and then they would step in!

yo Hook-em I went down there about 2 weeks ago with a buddy of mine. Where we went in there was a sign that stated no motorized vehicles past this point but we ignored it. Just FYI if you do go down in there be careful because if you go to far it turns into a public park. It has some pretty nice trails and would be one heck of a place to mud after a nice rain just have to watch out since it is in a flood plain. As several of the other guys have stated there are quite a few places to enter, we went in about a mile from the mitsubishi dealership.
