Got a new Optima Blue top battery in the XJ today and WOW! Big difference in cranking. My old battery wasn't bad, I just wanted a better battery to help handle the million lights I've got and winch. Engine cranks very quick and all lights on seem a bit more crisp. I highly recommend the Blue top battery if you have alot of accessories. D34M slips right in and now I have post just for the winch! AWESOME!

What IS the diff? I thought Red was for normal cranking, yellow was for like a 2nd battery, and blue was for marine... But I have no clue where I got all that....

| Red top is what they consider a "quick burst" battery, it gives all power for cranking. Yellow gives power for cranking but stores a bit more for longer usage. Blue is deep cell, gives even longer usage and is able to discharge and re charge with out killing cells.

Yeah, the blue top is normally used in marine applications but it's also useful for people who have trouble seeing at night (like Chris and his million lights).

I'm getting me a red top tomorrow. My OEM battery has left me stranded, unable to start my jeep twice now. After getting home today, I took it out to test it, only to find the case cracked at the negative terminal. A cracked and leaking battery is not something I wish to experience again in my life, so bye-bye OEM, hello Optima Red-Top.

Yup our lovely 100 degree weather will kill a battery! Had that happen to my bro and me in Austin. The battery was RED hot and sizzling! You'll hear a huge differance when you crank you engine over.

OK, so I got up yesterday all excited to go get my Optima red top battery. It didn't take long for the excitement to turn into hot anger. As I was carrying my old battery to place it in my wife's expedition, I noticed several little brownish-black spots on my front, passenger side fender flare. Thinking is was just grease that had dropped from my garage door opener because of the heat (this is pretty common this time of year), I went to get some Windex and a cotton rag. Only when I sprayed and wiped I was left with this. Battery acid apparently had leaked from the crack my OEM battery without me realizing it. It ate through the paint in my fender and flare and jacked it up real nice. Now I have a pretty long fuse and don't loose me temper often. I don't drop expletives very often either, but I made one big exception when I found this. At any rate, The red top seems really nice. I just wish my friggin' Jeep wouldn't have had to pay such a steep price for getting it in there.

Is it not still under warranty? Take it back to the dealer and demand that the fix it immediately if not sooner.

For damn sure man. Even if its not under warranty take it back and shove it in their faces. That is clearly unacceptible.

Yeah, about that. The case was cracked by the dealer right at the base of the negative terminal. It was clearly depressed in as if they had pried off the negative terminal during servicing at some point. You know as well as I do that they won't admit to doing it. They will claim that I did it and want to charge me for a new battery. What is funny is that I know that I didn't do it. Why, because I have never disconnected my battery. It doesn't really matter anymore anyway, because I turned the damaged battery in to AutoZone when I bought by Optima red top. I didn't want to spend the money on the Optima battery, but wanted a new OEM lead/acid battery even less, so I'm good now.
