I will help, sure. I just wont do it for you. i.e. do not drop it off and wait for the call when it is ready. That would be a long wait.... If you want to do it, we can get together and work on it together and it will be fun. Food will be involved, and plan on the Jeep sitting for at least 24hrs. after we spray it. Stripping the interior, and prepping it takes the most time. And whether you want to get rid of the sound deadening crap wil affect time also.

It would be fun and I can talk real slow because you are a UT kind of guy......hehehe

couldn't resist.....

I wouldn't want (and definitely wouldn't expect) you to do the work for me. I would do as much prep work as possible prior to meeting with you. That would accomplish several things. First, it would ensure our likelihood of completing the project. Second, it would maximize our "refreshment time" cheers2 . Third, and most importantly, it would reduce the amount of time you would have to t-a-l-k s-l-o-w. I wouldn't want to cause you any unnecessary stress, man.

What are your personal thoughts on the factory sound-deadening compound? I know it is applied in areas that are prone to resonance. By eliminating it, we may introduce more noise into the tub. I know the appearance will be better without it, but I'm not sure that appearance trumps functionality. I keep floundering, and can't make up my mind what to do about it.

Mine is just fine with bedliner & no dampening... I get more noise from the lack of roof and doors than anything.

I think the deadening you will get with the liner will be equal or better than the factory putty. The problem is removing the old stuff. several guys on here have expirimented with different processes and varied results. All of the methods that I have heard of wind up causing sore backs, and mystery dust all over, and a lasting personal relationship with a wire wheel. I would like to try a tile scraper (pneumatic) and see if it could be peeled up like a potato chip. I don't know if it will work, but I would like to try it. The problem is that once you start, you are commited.

After typing that last sentence.....If you own a Jeep you probably need to be commited...

I do understand the dilema, and am willing to help, you just have to decide.

the K5 has it much worse than any jeep. I used a wire wheel on a little air tool. took me a couple afternoons. outside was better as the dust dispersed on it's own. after that, a light sanding and then some orange oil to get the last little bit of it. really wasn't that big of a deal. just some work.

Yep, Ron used an air chisel. I'd say Ron did it right. If i do decide to remove mine, that'll be the way I do it. Thanks for the lead, Renee. I remember rooting that one out some time back. I had forgotten all about it though.
