PostSubject: Some Good News for Y'all, but Not for me   Sat 23 Jan 2010, 9:37 pm

OK well as most of y'all know since I got back from training I have been getting ready to deploy to Iraq. This has cause countless problems with friends, family and tons of other things within my life.

Over the past few months though I had gotten word that I might not deploy but I wouldn't know till it was closer to our date to leave(March 13th). I figured ok I've dealt with it this long, waiting a little more wont hurt.

Fast Forward to 4 days ago: I got a call basicly saying I am deploying pack up my crap and get ready for the first of two training missions before deployment. In a way I was stoked that I had a solid answer finally even though this would be one of the hardest things I would have yet to do

Tonight: we had a formation that basicly told us who we were going to deploy with. After about 3 hours of moving people around and staff not know alot of stuff, I found out I am not deploying after all. This is a huge shock to me and now my family. Even though they are relived I'm not deploying, this outcome of events and put me in a bind with alot of things.

Case in point, this is not a cry for sympathy or me just bitching (ok maybe a little) but me just updating y'all on why I've been so distant lately with everyone and Im sorry I did that.

I know how you feel. That sitting on the edge feel of, "JUST TELL ME IF I'M GOING OR NOT!!!" Been there too. I enjoyed being over there knowing that I'm making a difference and of course the money saving isn't bad either, but I don't know if it's worth it. Like you said, their's a lot of loved ones, family, and friends that would miss you and definitely worry about you. I'm sure you will get another chance after a while. Until then don't let it stress you out, get your rig ready and WHEEL!!!

Hang in there, I know some in the military who "want" to go to Iraq, some don't, not sure what you "really" want to do but either way good luck with it. My brother in-law just returned from Iraq last Nov, he may be re-deploying, not sure yet. He's been in for 11 yrs now, he looked forward to serving over there and was also glad to get back. Good luck with everything and as always thanks for serving.

I'll say a prayer for you. My son was there almost a year and loved it even though it was tough. I think its harder on the family because there is too much of "not knowing" whats going on. Gods Speed! Keep us updated.

Well in kinda nongood way turn of events my buddy might not deploy because of his back which means its either me or one other guy who might take his place and that team has already requested me if he should need to be replaced.

Even though this could be what i wanted this is not how i wanted it to happen

Hey Cody,

I did 22 years, spent some time in spec ops (Gone all the time, usually with little notice). This crap will happen as long as you are in and we have stuff going on around the world.

Stop putting your life on hold and blaming it on the Army. It's your choice what you do with your time when you are here. Your family and friends will always worry, and it looks to me like you have a lot of friends and family who support you. ENJOY THEM WHEN YOU HAVE TIME!!!!

Thanks for your service and godspeed if you do deploy.

Hope to see you at the next event..................

Don't understand how active duty would help, except the steady pay, but good luck!

Just got an email from my cousin. He is freezing his butt off on the Syrian border. 20 degree wind chill.

I understand your frustration. I went through a similar scenario as El Cucuy described except that the first time it happened was right at Christmas. The second time I wasn't as nervous and even joked about it getting called off. Sure enough it did.

"Hurry up and wait" is very accurate. Good luck with however it turns out.
