Fear- nope... Hatred- YES!!!

Mud sucks! Mud is EVIL!

Yes,
my JK has been completely covered with mud before. Which is why I hate
it! Takes forever to clean it all. And even after thoroughly cleaning
it, you still have the crap stuck in every nook and cranny just waiting
to fall into your eyes the next time you're turning a wrench! Not to
mention the way it ruins seals, bearings, etc.

N2, hate to call you out, but....

It
takes me about 1.5 hours to have my jeep PERFECTLY clean after heavy
heavy mudding. That includes inside, outside, and all the crannies
underneath. Jack the jeep up, remove the wheels/tire, (also a great
time to rotate,) and you can get to everything super easy. O and it
doesn't cost me anything other than my water bill. Twisting the splines
on my front axle in the rocks...

Sorry, maybe we should dedicate a thread to just mud vs. not mud. It is a fun debate and I like kicking at the beehive.

Apparently I am doing it all wrong, because it take me longer than 1.5 hours to wash/clean my Jeep even when I haven't been in mud. And that doesn't include removing any wheels... Hey Ben- how about you come down here in wash my Jeep so I can see how you do it.

But Ben- I don't care how well you clean it, you're eventually going to be wrenching on it and discover that mud is hidden away where you never even thought to look. And then all that dried dirt is gonna fall down in your face/eyes/nose/mouth.

Wait til your axle starts leaking all over your wheel and driveway... And then tell me how much it costs to get the axle seal replaced. Oh, while they're replacing the seals, they will inform you that the bearings are shot too.... And then the really bad news- they won't cover any of it under warranty because they found so much dried mud inside your axle.

Some holes have no bottom in them! Always test with the water fording stick. Then back the jeep in slowly, all the way across the obstacle, it is much better to get stuck with the back end sunk where as long as your gas filler is above water you are good. I would much rather go backwards into the obstacle slowly, get stuck, then have maverick pull me out from the front than to jump off blindly and wind up like the poor yj at shiloh last time. I have been that yj before and spent a whole summer with no radiator fan cuz I was too cheap to replace it.

O and N2, I can always say I still have no scratches or dents on my jeep paint, (bumpers yes, skids hell yes, and hardtop yes.) I take pride in that fact and if/when I ever bite it big time, you all can laugh at me as well you should, but until then I will make the claim that I keep the cleanest jeep on the forum!

I'm pretty sure if you have the cleanest Jeep on the trail at the end of the day, then you lose.

Now see... that technique is used for "muddy water". There is a difference between playing in muddy water, and playing in thick sucky mud.

Your point being??? Tell you what- you go play in the mud at SCORP, and you'll probably end up with some scratches in the process. Scratches- only the first one hurts Wink

Gonna agree with TxRubiRig on this one- you don't know what clean is (yet) LOL

I'll take you up on that TX rubi! I love some friendly competition, don't make me bust out the mcguire's tire shine! (Actually I don't use tire shine even on my bike, I don't like shiny tires.) One of my favorite things is to have my jeep spotless when I arrive to go wheeling, and see how dirty it can get by the end of the day.

N2, I do love muddy water, I prefer real mud, but it is hard to find around here even at shiloh. The last time we were all there the mud was pretty fun as they had drained some of those holes in the bottom so it was less water and more soupy mud. BUT, my dream trails, (and me and maverick used to go to a park that had these,) are long trails through the woods with good soupy mud and a few water crossings. That is my favorite kind of wheeling!

Well Ben its not me that I would put ya up against...it's Jody!

When ya use your duster while driving back after leaving a weekend trip, when ya cleaning the interior means ya also clean under the rollbar padding, take out the console and the top part on the dash above the radio, when ya just touching up and use the degreaser under the hood and where ever esle...thats one clean ass Jeep!

fyi Jody, I'm not ragg'n on ya...just kinda wish I had half the "dedicacion" in cleaning a vehicle

Sorry Ben... Anyone that knows Jody, knows he has the cleanest Jeep on the planet. Unfortunately he won't clean mine, even for money. So I'm forced to pay $100 to a detail shop. And then Jody looks it over and informs me of all the places that they missed LOL

I will concede that fact. Jody does keep his jeep even cleaner than mine. I have seen it several times in person. Although I clean underneath and in the engine compartment after wheeling, I don't keep it spotless like he does. I do keep my interior super clean, but I never have the carpet in either. Maybe I can claim the title of # 2 clean ass.

P.S. N2, if you lived closer, I would do it in my driveway for 30$ and it would be spotless. Not Jody/showroom floor spotless, but pretty damn close. Mav can vouch for my cleaning skillz. It may seem weird but I love cleaning peoples "nice" vehicles. There is a guy at the office I clean his stang gt california special 3 times a week for 10$ a pop. That is a wash of the car, wheels, (no tire shine, i hate that look,) clean interior, (no vacuuming,) and buffing out with "wax as u dry," which is rly just a polish to keep the water spots off. I love doing it, but only on nice vehicles. It's not so much fun on a tercel like my old car, but i kept that damn thing clean too.
