PostSubject: Goodyear MT/R's w/ Kevlar $197 35X12.5X15   Mon 05 Oct 2009, 8:51 pm

Got new shoes on my TJ from Discount Tire. Yes I know someone will find a better price some where else. I went with Discount Tire for the road hazard warranty and replacement they offer. All I can say is WOW. They look great. They are very quiet on the road. I also noticed that my jeep does not seem to lean as much in the corners, I think this is cause the stiffer side walls. I'm going to SCORP on Saturday and will post how they do off road.

Sweet. Sounds awesome. If KM2's didn't exist, MTR's would be my choice. Let us know what you think.

Hey, the new MTR with kevlar?!? I have heard a lot of VERY positive reviews on them. I listen to Car and Driver radio and they got to go to a demo day out in the badlands to (as the goodyear guys said,) TRY to tear up those tires. Interestingly they were all installed on a small fleet of jk rubicons. They aired down to 5 psi and were trying to shred the tire or break a bead. They did everything from putting the sidewall up against a sharp rock to climb it sideways, to flying across a salt flat at 50 mph and 5psi and all day long there was not a single failure. And they were trying to mess them up, purposefully doing "the wrong things." That review caught my attention.

Here it is

Yea I read a JP Mag article were they took the air down to 4 or 5 and they said the same thing. Also read a review on one of the forums. Guy said he was running these in I think Moab were there is a obstacle called the "bath tub" or "tub" and at the end of it there is a sharp rock. He says he made it through fine but the next few jeeps with KM2's and other tires all cut the rear passenger side wall and went flat. In the post he said he went trough it again on the same line and only had rock rash on the side wall of his MT/R's w/ Kevlar from that rock. Don't get me wrong KM2's are great tires from what I have heard. I just wanted a tire quieter and longer lasting on the road than a regular mud tire cause a lot of the trips are hrs away from home. Also wanted a tire that provided great traction when aired down and is more puncture resistant for the added security. These should give me everything I was looking for. I'm going to SCORP Saturday to get them dirty. Then on to Longs the weekend after.

That's what spares and road hazard warranties are for

That's what mud is for! I have never heard of someone puncturing a tire on a mud. Well to be fair I have heard of people hitting stuff under water and screwing a tire, but that is because they didn't use water fording sticks.

Hey I have to be careful throwing stones after this weekend, Against my better judgement I jumped in without a fording stick and found some ruts made by George's or somebody's 35's. 32's did not win. In fact a 32 inch tire in a 35" rut is a great chance to be sitting on your axles in no time flat.

Does that Kevlar protect everything or just the sidewall? The KM2s are 8 ply and these are 6 ply. I wonder how that Kevlar 6 compares to the KM2 8 when talking foot print.

That asymmetric tread pattern looks weird, but could grow on me. How is the road noise with these?
